A classroom session can be a great opportunity to reflect on specific areas of your team’s performance, whilst involving your players in planning their coaching.
Here is an example session I have used with my players. It is split into a series of activities, each prefaced by a question. After each activity, I mixed up the groups so the discussions didn’t get repetitive.
Goal: Improve the speed of our possession in the opposition’s half.
Time: 50 minutes.
Resources: Paper, pens, flipchart, blu-tack, mat, ball
Why is winning quick possession such an advantage for the attacking team?

If groups have specific ideas on ball presentation or body positions, get them to demonstrate on a mat on the floor.
Why is it harder to win quick possession the closer we get to the opposition’s try line?

This will depend on the individual team and how effective you are at winning quick ruck possession.
What can we do as a team to improve the speed of the possession we win in the opposition’s half? This depends on the individual team.
