Use 12-15 players (eight attackers, a scrum half and the rest defenders).
One ball.
Work with a pitch line as the gain line to check whether progress has been made.
Set up the attack and defence as in picture 1 as close to the gain line as skills allow. The 9 runs and passes. Three forwards run the lines as in picture 2.
Set up - Use semi-contact and/or tackle suits.
Players using space and angles of running to either fix or tempt the defence out of position and leave a gap.
The same move can be done but with a pass to 10 first (see picture 3). Some defenders are then missed out and allows forwards to attack the defence’s midfield (12 and 13). Next, play on through another phase.
Ensure the players at the ruck are in strong and low body positions so a counter ruck cannot be used successfully.
