This easy-to-set-up activity can be run as a breakout from games or as a large group in lots of boxes. Mix up the players so sometimes they are evenly matched but at other times there is a bit of mismatch in favour of the defender.
An 8m x 5m box, cones and a ball.
ACTIVITY 1: Put a defender on cone A, B or C and an attacker on cone D, E or F (see illustration 1). When you say “Go!”, the attacker has to run to the opposite line without being touched.
ACTIVITY 2: Have an attacker and defender walk/run to-and-fro between their outside cones (A to C, D to F, etc). When you shout “Go!”, the attacker aims to do as they did before. Why not introduce full tackling? This is a good session-ender, with prizes for winners or forfeits for losers, like collecting up the cones.
1. Put a defender and an attacker on one of three lettered cones
2. The attacker aims to score without being touched
3. Both the defender and attacker run up and down between the two end cones
4. The last two receivers run to the end cones and turn to attack
5. When you say “Go!”, both players come forward
6. The attacker aims to keep two hands on the ball to avoid the temptation of using a hand-off. In this case, penalise the ball carrier
