What you tell your players the session is about
What you tell your players to do
What to call out
What to look for
Players who are knocked down too easily. They need to lean into the tackler using their upper body and keep their feet apart in a strong position, while driving with their legs.
What to think about
What evasive moves are your players using? Which are most successful? What upper body techniques help to fend off defenders? Which players have the right attitude? How can you get this same attitude from the others?
What you get your players to do
Set up an 8m channel. A ball carrier and defender face each other 1m apart. The ball carrier initiates the game by moving and trying to beat the defender through the channel.
The correct attitude is important, so encourage the ball carrier to stay on his feet and fight his way past the defender. If brought to ground, the ball carrier can either pop or place the ball down for a support player.
