This Qudditch and multi-directional touch inspired activity gives players an opportunity to work on continuity and support in attack. By Vicky Alexander, Petersfield Senior Men’s Coach, Cobham Girls Rugby Lead and Army Women’s assistant coach
A team can score 2 points using the hoop. Two players must enter the square. One player holds up the hoop and other must receive a pass through the hoop from the ball carrier outside of the scoring zone
.
This game has plenty of options for additional developments: I have used a rule where after each score the defenders have to stay in the centre circle for 5 seconds. This has opened the space up for the attackers. It also gives the defenders the task to quickly close down the space after they’ve left the circle.
This game works on developing players continuity and support in attack. Giving teams 5 touches to score before a turnover works on their execution of a score under pressure. Using a quidditch inspiration in a game ties it to something the players will know from pop culture and make it different from a standard game of rugby. If you don’t have hoops try using bibs or a tag belt to make a hoop.
