LOGINVIDEO: Super-charged bulldogs
In this new take on the traditional game of bulldogs, the defenders stay the same for each round. If a runner is caught, they continue to be a runner in the next round, but their value reduces. This means that more elusive runners become more valuable to the defence, democratising the game.
- Depending on the numbers, put three defenders opposite nine attackers. A ratio of one to three/four seems to work best.
- The defenders stand on the halfway line of the box (say 20m).
- Each runner has a bib tucked into their shorts.
- When you say go, the runners have less than five seconds to move into the box. Once in the box they run to the other side.
- Defenders are allowed to capture ONE runner each.
- If a runner is tagged (bib grabbed), then they get their bib back, and return to the line.
- Count the bibs gathered.
- In the next round, anyone who hasn’t been caught is now worth two bibs. (You can do this after one round or two).
- Run for four rounds.
- Count up the bibs caught, and then challenge three other players to beat the previous group.
Depending on the groups, you can say that anyone not caught after two rounds is worth three bibs!
