A simple session to begin with, but becomes very intense. This works on reacting quickly to different contact situations and making good contacts.
Players need to be secure in their body positions in contact, so it works well after a technical session on body profiling in contact.
A 10m box, with a 5m box inside; then, four 3m boxes inside a 20m square; balls and ruck pads.
ACTIVITY: Each side of the 10m box has a ruck pad-holder, lettered A, B, C and D. Call out a letter; the corresponding ruck pad-holder moves forward. One of the players from the middle of the box has to drive them back out of the box. Call another letter, and so on, so the players in the middle have a steady flow of action for 30 seconds. The middle players always have to return to the box before driving back the pad.
DEVELOPMENTS: Put four ball carriers in each small box, two attack support players in the middle and two defenders at the sides. Call for two ball carriers to go down, one from either side of the middle line. Those ball carriers fall to the ground and present the ball. The support players and defenders aim to be the first player to clear over the ball.
