Use this full session to build up the right footwork to make strong tackles, both on an individual basis and within a team context.
Split players into pairs inside a box – 10 players inside a 10m box, for example.
One player in each box is the attacker; the other is the defender. They stand 1m apart, facing each other.
When you say "Go!", the attacker moves left, and then right, without bumping into any other players.
They are not allowed to move forward or backwards.
When you shout "Tackle!", the defender has to put two hands on the chest of the attacker. To do this, they have to be tracking their attacker across the box.
Initially, all the pairs can be evenly spaced, so there’s little chance of bumping into each other.
However, you can change the way they face to make it more chaotic.
